Like millions of Americans, we have been horrified by the federal government’s response to COVID-19. The Trump administration has botched the response, and Congress has been missing in action for weeks. Tens of thousands of people are dying, but the recovery acts signed into law have benefited corporations and the ultra-wealthy far more than Americans who are suffering most. 

 

Now, many in Congress are pushing to bail out 501(c)(6) organizations -- trade associations that lobby for some of the most abusive corporations in the world. This crisis should not be an opportunity for lobbyists to enrich themselves. We formed this organization to fight back! 

 

Underlying all of our efforts is a progressive political stance. We believe that Congress must be pressured to support widely popular policies, such as: Medicare for All, public campaign financing, vote-by-mail, and the Green New Deal.

 

We envision DPC to be an agile organization for rapid response research, policy analysis, and targeted campaigns. The political landscape is changing quickly, and we will adapt as needed. Though created in response to a crisis, our work has only begun, so expect more details and policy demands soon.
